Dispatch software

Tow truck dispatch software built around one board

Last updated

The short answer

Tow truck dispatch software is the screen where a dispatcher sees every live job and hands each one to a truck. In TowSitePros, assigning a job texts the driver their own job link, tells the customer which unit is coming when texting is on and they agreed, and keeps a history of every handoff.

What does tow truck dispatch software actually do?

It keeps one live list of work and one list of trucks, and it makes moving a job from one to the other quick. A call or a web request becomes a job, the dispatcher puts a quote and an arrival time on it, and one assignment sends it to a driver.

In TowSitePros that assignment does the follow-up for you. The driver is texted a link to the job, the customer is told which truck is coming when texting is on and they agreed to it, and the board shows whether the driver has tapped "Got it". Nobody has to make a second phone call to say what the first one already decided.

What does the dispatcher see on the board?

The board shows every live job and the unit that has it. You can filter to one driver, or to the unassigned pile, which is the working view when calls are stacking up. Finished jobs are hidden by default and one switch brings them back.

Jobs are ordered by response risk, so the ones closest to missing a first response come up first instead of sitting in date order. Beside each assigned job you can see whether the driver acknowledged it and when their phone last checked in, so you know who has seen what.

  • Customer, service, vehicle, pickup and status on each row
  • Assign, reassign or take a job back in one step
  • Got it, or not acknowledged, and when the driver last checked in
  • A log of recent handoffs, so you can answer who took a call long after it closed

What happens on the board when you assign a job?

The board hands the job to the driver as a text with a link, and then shows you whether they have seen it. What the driver sees and taps is covered on the driver job link page, so this page stays on the dispatcher side.

Two things are worth knowing from the board. If a phone number is missing or a text does not go out, you can copy the link from the job and send it another way. And reassigning the job, or creating a new link, stops the old link working, so a driver who no longer has the job cannot keep acting on it.

How does it help you pick the right truck?

Each driver or truck on your roster can carry a truck type, such as flatbed, wheel-lift, medium duty, heavy duty, motorcycle or service vehicle. When a job looks like a poor match for the unit you picked, the board raises a hint, for example an all-wheel-drive car headed for a wheel-lift.

The hint never blocks you. A dispatcher knows things a form does not, like the customer has dollies or it is the only truck in range at 2 a.m., so the assignment stays available and the software only raises an eyebrow.

What does this dispatch software not do?

It does not pick the truck for you, and it is not a motor-club digital dispatch integration, an impound or lien system, or a private-property patrol tool. You decide who runs each job, and jobs from a club are logged here by hand, by import or through the API.

It also does not replace a radio or a phone call when a driver needs a person. The call button on the driver page is there for exactly that.

Frequently asked questions

Can one person run dispatch from a phone?

Yes. It is a web app, so the board, the job form and the assignment control open in a phone browser, which suits a small shop where the owner dispatches from the truck. If you run one truck, add yourself to the roster and the board still works the same way.

Do my drivers need logins?

No. A driver only needs the text with their job link. There is also one standing link for each truck that lists every open job on it, and dispatch can switch either link off at any time.

Does the software assign trucks automatically?

No. A dispatcher picks the unit for every job. The board only advises when a truck type looks like a poor fit, and that advice never stops an assignment.

Can I log calls that did not come from my website?

Yes. Log a phone call, a walk-in or a motor-club job from the dashboard in a few taps, with the quote and arrival time. It lands on the same board as a website request.
