The tow driver job link: your next call, by text
Last updated
The short answer
A tow driver job link is a private web address that dispatch texts you when a job is assigned. Tap it and the whole job opens in your phone browser: customer, vehicle, pickup, drop-off and buttons to navigate and update the job. There is nothing to download and no password to remember.
What is a tow driver job link?
A tow driver job link is a web address that belongs to one job. Dispatch assigns the job to you or to your truck, the system texts you the link, and tapping it opens the job page in whatever browser is already on your phone.
The link itself is the key. That is why there is no login screen. It also means the link is for you and your truck only, so do not forward it around the yard.
How does the driver get the job without an app?
The driver gets the job as a text message. With TowSitePros, assigning a unit on the dispatch board sends that unit its job link, and the page loads like any other web page.
Nothing gets installed, nothing needs an account, and it works on any phone with a browser. If you like, you can add a job page to your home screen so it opens in its own window, but that is a convenience and not a requirement.
The first thing to do is tap the Got it button. It tells dispatch the text arrived, so the office is not left wondering whether your phone buzzed.
What is on the job page?
The job page shows what you need to roll, in the order you need it, laid out for one hand and a gloved thumb.
- The customer name and phone number, with one-tap Call and Text buttons.
- The pickup location with a Navigate button that opens your maps app, and the drop-off with its own Navigate button.
- The vehicle, including drive type and any notes about it, so you know before you hook up whether it is front, rear or all wheel drive.
- The quote, who is paying, and any reference or PO number dispatch entered.
- Anything the customer typed on the request, and their exact pin if they shared their location from their own page.
- Status buttons, a photo section, a notes box and a signature pad for the walk around.
What is the my jobs link for my truck?
Each truck can also have one standing link that lists every open job assigned to it, oldest first. Each job in the list opens its own page.
It is the closest thing to a driver app without being one. Save it to your home screen and it becomes your day. It also carries an on shift toggle, so dispatch can see which trucks are working.
Dispatch can switch that link off in a second if a phone changes hands or a driver leaves, and issue a new one.
What if the job link says it has expired?
Call dispatch and ask for a fresh link. A job link stops working after about a week, when the job is reassigned or closed, or when the office switches it off, and the page says which of those happened.
A page that says the job is no longer yours usually means it was reassigned. That is normal on a busy night, and the fix is a phone call rather than a hunt through your texts.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to download an app to get tow jobs?
No. With TowSitePros the job arrives as a text link and opens in your normal phone browser. There is no download, no account and no password for the driver.
Can I put the job page on my home screen?
On most phones, yes. Use your browser's add to home screen option and the job opens in its own window named after your company. It is per job, so the standing my jobs link is the better one to save.
Is it okay to forward the job link to someone else?
No. The link is the only credential, so anyone holding it can open that job. If another driver needs the job, ask dispatch to reassign it so the old link is switched off and the new driver gets their own.
What happens if I lose signal on a call?
Taps on the status buttons and notes are saved on your phone and sent when you have signal again. Photos need a connection to upload, so shoot them at the scene and let them send once you are back in range.
Does the customer see my phone number?
No. The customer's own page never shows the driver's number. They get the company phone number and can message you through the page, and those messages show up on yours.
Working for a tow company?
If your company is looking at a way to send jobs without an app, show your owner how TowSitePros works. The job link reaches the driver by text or email, depending on how texting is set up, and there is nothing to install.
